On Sunday 7th October ten of us travelled down to Wattisham Airfield, formally RAF Wattisham, in Suffolk to visit the Heritage Museum.
The introductory talk about the founding of the airfield was very interesting, being delivered by the daughter of the farmer who's farmland, as well as that of his brother, was requesitioned by the government for the site. This talk was well illustrated with period photgraphs taken by her mother.
We then had a look around the rest of the main museum building, which is very well laid out in chronological order, before heading around the airfield to visit their aircraft collection housed in and outside a Cold War era Hardened Aircraft Shelter.
After exploring here it was time for a quick group photograph in front of a Hunter of 111 Sqn
before heading back to the main building for a final look around and a round of thank yous before departing for home.
A great afternoon out and well worth the visit.
