This afternoon saw the annual Diss Remembrance Parade, back before a high-street lined with members of the public after last years muted affair. This parade marked the 100th anniversary of the installation of the memorial at St Mary's Church in 1921.
As usual the parade formed up in Mere Street near Mere Mouth before making it's way up towards the Market Place.
In a change this year the wreath layers peeled off and carried on to the church while the parade made it's way up Market Hill and then down St Nicholas Steet to form up facing the memorial. The younger members of the parade, Beavers, Cubs, Rainbows and Brownies, were then moved towards the front allowing them to witness the ceremony more clearly. This was a much needed improvement on previous years in my opinion.
At this point we were treated to a flypast of two Apache helicopters of the Army Air Corps from their base at Wattisham in Suffolk.
The main ceremony and wreath laying then commenced including a two minutes silence. With our President/Chairman away it was left to Peter Moralee to lay the wreath.
The parade then disbanded with some entering the church for the follow up service.
